Seascapes
All manner of seascapes and wave photography from ICM blurs to serene sunsets to close up wave action.
The Lone Surfer
The brave lone surfer here, playing with the powerful waves at Lake Ferry, adds scale to the image. The movement created using a slow shutter speed seems to add urgency to the scene. The guy later asked if I got any good shots of him with his board. I think he was a little disappointed that I’d not been there with the intention of getting super sharp images of the waves. Nevertheless, I sent him this one hoping to expand his horizons. I hope he liked it.
Ocean Energy
For me. this image captures the energy and power of the ocean. As I look at it, I can almost feel the force and hear the crescendo of the wave as it crashes to the shore. Taken at Lake Ferry, New Zealand
Sunset Ocean
ICM really is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re going to get. This image, taken at Lake Ferry, New Zealand, appeared to turn the ocean to molten gold as the sun went down.
Waves at the black beach
The black, shingle beach at Lake Ferry adds a dynamic edge to this coastal image. The sharp black beach has a steep slope down to where the tide meets it, creating huge waves close to the shoreline. The mountains in the not so distant background make for a very special scene.
Driving on the beach at sunset
Diving on the beach here in New Zealand is a thing. My jury is out to be honest, as to whether or not this is a good thing. I suppose as always, if people play by the rules and use common sense then all is well… The image here was taken well after sunset using ICM. It was only when I got home and viewed it on my monitor that i noticed the distant lights of a car driving along in the distance.
Wave Explosion at Lake Ferry
Lake Ferry is one of the southern most beaches of the North Island of New Zealand. Head directly south and the next stop is Antarctica. The water is bracing, to say the least, and the waves are full of energy as they crash onto the black beach. What a place. Wild and free.
