I arrived at Mount Maunganui mid afternoon with the intention of heading up the iconic Mount with my camera for sunset… except I missed the turn off to go UP and instead ended up going AROUND! When I realised, I was way past the point of no return so carried on, not knowing the distance or the length of time it was going to take. The Mount is surrounded by the ocean giving rise to some amazing views. As I turned one corner this came into view! The late afternoon sun was streaming through these windblown trees clinging on to the edge of the Mount. As it appeared to be ‘rush hour’ on the track I managed to hurriedly take this image before anyone got in the shot. Forever grateful I missed that turning as this remains one of my all time favourite images which cannot now be seen or retaken as the track is closed for the forseeable future due to a devastating landslide coming down the Mount back in January 2026.

Lake Horowhenua is a great place for stunning sunsets despite the prevalence of sandflies and goose poo! The ICM technique used here softens the scene and brings me to image the lake is on fire as the sun goes down

The Distant Tree Line at the Manawatu Estuary, Foxton

The Manawatu Estuary at Foxton, New Zealand never fails to please me. The river is wide, leading out to the ocean. A Mecca for fishing and fun water sports. This image was taken using ICM techniques, looking across the flowing river to the trees and ranges beyond. I love the muted colours with the sky reflecting the colour of the water.
